Arkansas City Police officers responded to a vehicle crash at approximately 2:23 a.m. on February 1, 2026, in the 400 block of West Adams Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located a red 2015 Ford Focus resting sideways in the canal. Officers assisted the driver, who was still inside the vehicle at the time of their arrival.
Arkansas City Fire/EMS responded to the scene and transported the driver, Yani Felix, 29, of Arkansas City, to the emergency room for treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound on West Adams Avenue when it failed to navigate the turn, drove through a newly installed fence along the Hike and Bike Trail, and entered the canal.
The incident remains under investigation. The case will be forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office for review of potential charges.
