Watch for snow and cold this weekend

We are keeping a close eye on the weather… a WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO NOON CST SUNDAY. Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute. Winfield says City crews have pre-treated (brined) major thoroughfares in advance of the storm. During a typical winter snow event, Street Maintenance crews apply anti-icing materials to main streets prior to precipitation, and snow clearing begins as soon as accumulation requires. The City’s highest priority routes during a snow event are: 9th Avenue / US-160 and Main Street / US-77. City utilities are working closely with electric grid operators and power and natural gas suppliers to coordinate the safe and reliable delivery of energy throughout this extreme cold event.
