Ark City moves ahead with water line improvements

The City of Arkansas City has approved a resolution authorizing an Engineering Design Services Agreement with Smith & Oakes, Inc. for the West Kansas Avenue Water Line Improvements Project. The agreement, approved during the June 3 City Commission meeting, is valued at an amount not to exceed $30,600.00. This marks the initial phase of a broader effort to replace and improve water infrastructure throughout Arkansas City. Smith & Oakes will develop detailed engineering plans and specifications, including a standardized materials list. These efforts will streamline the future approval process with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and improve overall project efficiency. The West Kansas Avenue area was selected as the starting point due to several favorable conditions, including minimal need for complex boring operations, low utility density, and open layout, which will facilitate both construction and hands-on training for City crews.
