Ark City police respond to wreck

On July 3, 2024, at 9:44 p.m., the Arkansas City Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of North 2nd Street and Kansas Avenue in response to a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a vehicle had gone through the stop sign at the intersection and collided with the residence at 200 Block of W. Kansas Ave.
The driver, identified as Anthony Perez-Hernandez, 22, Arkansas City, exhibited signs of alcohol impairment. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered, revealing further clues of impairment. Consequently, Perez-Hernandez was transported to the Arkansas City Police Department for additional testing. Following the tests, he was taken to the Cowley County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, lack of proof of insurance, transporting an open container, and reckless driving. His bond was set for $750.
The passenger in the vehicle, Pedro Marcos Pascual, was found in possession of an open container and was cited and released for this violation. The Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department assessed the residence’s structural integrity. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident, and the vehicle was subsequently towed.
