Winfield police respond to person hit by train

Winfield Police say on Sunday June 5th at approximately 9:20 AM, members of the Winfield Police Department and members of Winfield Fire EMS were dispatched to the railroad tracks located in the 500 block of Main Street (Highway 77) in Winfield for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a train. Upon arrival emergency crews located a 62-year-old Winfield Man with serious injuries to his lower extremities. Immediate medical intervention measures were deployed on the individual and they were later transported to a Wichita area hospital for further treatment. At this time, the accident is still under investigation, but it is believed this was an accident and not an intentional act. It is believed the individual was attempting to crawl underneath the train while it was stationary, and when the train began moving this is when the accident and subsequent injuries occurred. The involved train company is WATCO.
