Bankers looking ahead on Midwest economy

A monthly survey of bankers in states that include Kansas shows optimism about the Midwest economy. The overall Rural Mainstreet economic index dropped from 78.8 in May to 70 in June, but any score above 50 suggests a growing economy. Creighton University economist Ernie Goss, who supervises the survey, said Kansas was among the states that reported non-farm employment levels above where they were before the pandemic. The confidence index was at 71.7 for June. It had been 78.8 in May
