Cowley County Fire District #3 had planned to go back to issuing control burn permits earlier this week. Here are some reminders if you are going to request a permit from Cowley Dispatch:
1. Have a plan and the ability to control the fire. This includes checking the weather for future wind behavior.
2. The fire is your responsibility. If it rekindles, burns someone else’s field, or burns someone’s house, you are responsible for the fire you start.
3. If we are called because your fire is out of control, we will extinguish the fire in its entirety. We don’t assist with control burns in an emergency capacity. If you have left the scene and your fire rekindles, we will call you back to assist in extinguishing it and putting out hotspots.
