The City of Ark City says despite a stretch of stormy weather, our Street Department pressed on-and we’re happy to report that all projects scheduled for this phase of mill and overlay work are now complete. Earlier this month, crews-working in partnership with MMI Asphalt-began resurfacing Valley View Drive. The project was managed in-house to give us greater control over the schedule, budget, and quality. MMI provided equipment support, while our team completed the majority of the labor. This hybrid approach allowed us to work efficiently and cost-effectively, while also building valuable in-house experience. This effort supports our broader goal of making mill and overlay part of an annual maintenance routine. While we don’t yet have all the equipment or staffing to handle everything internally, partnerships like this allow us to train our crews while keeping costs down.
Streets resurfaced in this phase include:
• N 12th St. (W Radio Ln to W Ash Ave)
• W Ash Ave (12th St. to 9th St.)
• Valley View Dr.
• Charden Dr.
These streets were selected based on assessment priorities and because they offered lower-traffic, safer training opportunities for our first in-house season.
