Sheriff’s office warns about scammers

Cowley County Sheriff’s Office says they want to remind everyone to stay vigilant against scam calls. Scammers are using various tactics to steal your personal information and money. Common scam call tactics include:
1. Claiming to be from a government agency.
2. Pretending to be a representative from a bank or credit card company.
3. Threatening arrest or legal action if you don’t pay immediately.
4. Offering prizes or lottery winnings, but asking for payment first.
5. Impersonating loved ones needing urgent financial help.
Things you can do to keep yourself safe:
* Don’t answer unknown numbers or suspicious calls.
* Hang up immediately if the caller asks for personal information or money.
* Never share your Social Security number, bank details, or password.
* Use call-blocking features/apps on your phone.
