Arkansas City residents are being asked to voluntarily reduce their water use. The City Commission declared a Class 1, Stage 1 Water Watch because maintaining an adequate water supply is essential.
“Currently, our water storage is down to about 80%, and we’ve been ending the day with around 65% storage,” Rod Philo, environmental services superintendent, said in a news release. “This means a significant main break or any similar issue could put us in trouble. That’s the reason for the water watch declaration.”
The city is concerned that drier weather or other factors could make the situation worse. So, it is implementing proactive measures to conserve water.
