The Winfield Police Department says they received a call yesterday afternoon from a Winfield business regarding a scam making the rounds in our area once again. A person claiming to be with Evergy is calling and stating they’re going to cut off utilities if payment is not made over the phone. Evergy does not provide utility services inside the city limits of Winfield, and the City of Winfield, KS customer service department does not call and demand payment over the phone for utilities. If you get a call like this, please hang up and do not provide any information to the caller.
