Winfield Fire-EMS Department says The tally is complete, and this year’s Battle of the Badges winner is…WINFIELD! The Red Cross collected 52 units of blood in Winfield and 47 units of blood in Ark City.
While we are excited for this win, the true winners are the Kansas hospitals and cancer centers that will have blood on their shelves, the patients who will receive the donated blood, and the patients’ loved ones.
Over the course of the two blood drives:
• 147 people showed up to give blood.
• 5 people gave their first blood donation. This is especially important since Red Cross is seeing the lowest number of donors in 20 years.
• 4 units of A- blood, 4 units of B- blood, 11 units of O- blood, and 42 units of O+ blood were collected, the four types most requested by hospitals.
