Suspect surrenders after disturbance call

On June 22nd, 2024, at approximately 9:54 p.m. officers from the Winfield Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of east 5th Avenue in Winfield for a report of a disturbance involving gunshots. During the initial stages of the investigation officers discovered two male individuals were involved in an argument. During the argument the suspect produced a firearm striking the victim multiple times and eventually firing several rounds from the firearm in the direction of the victim. The victim, who was identified as Auden Tarin, 25, of Winfield, was treated and released at a local hospital. The suspect was identified as Johnathen Jones, 24, of Winfield, later turned himself into law enforcement. Mr. Jones was arrested and booked into the Cowley County Jail on the following charges: Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, Criminal Discharge of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
