Planning Commission needs your input

A new proposal has been presented to the City of Arkansas City Planning Commission, and they need your input. The proposal involves placing a 10 by 30-foot billboard on the north side of Billy Sims, 2113 N Summit St. The sign would be about 50 feet tall. According to the Zoning Regulations, such billboards can be installed within the city if a conditional use permit is issued. Several nearby property and business owners voiced concerns about this proposed billboard during a public hearing. In response to the concerns raised, the Planning Commission has postponed the decision until their July 9 meeting. This delay is specifically to gather more public feedback on the issue of billboards, not just at this location but throughout the city. Your feedback will be crucial in helping the Planning Commission recommend this matter to the City Commission, which will make the final decision. Please leave your feedback by clicking on a link that’s up on the city’s Facebook page.
DEADLINE: Sunday, July 7, 2024
Clarification: We would like to clarify that the city does not fund the billboard project currently under discussion. The project is being pursued by a private company, Summit Locations, based in Ohio.
