Police in Marion, Kansas, raided the office of the local newspaper on Friday. Law enforcement with the Marion Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office took the Marion County Record’s computer file server, computers, phones, and other equipment. Law enforcement said they were investigating an identity theft, and they had a search warrant. The co-owner and publisher of the paper, Eric Meyer, thinks the raid was prompted by a story published Wednesday about a local business owner. The paper’s 98-year-old co-owner, Joan Meyer, died at her home less than 24 hours later.
