COMMISSIONERS OPPOSE 30×30 LAND PRESERVATION GOAL

Cowley County commissioners approved a resolution opposing the federal government’s 30×30 land preservation goal at their Tuesday meeting, acting upon a request from the Cowley County Republican Party.

The 30×30 program, part of an executive order addressing climate change issued by President Joe Biden in January 2021, directs senior U.S. government officials to develop a plan to conserve at least 30% of the lands and waters in the U.S. by 2030. According to a copy of the local Republican Party’s resolution, this program would result in around 700 million acres of the nation’s land set aside and permanently preserved in its natural state, preventing productive use of the land and resources.
