The Cowley County Fire District says BE ON THE LOOKOUT. They said: It seems that someone is setting grass fires around Burden. We responded to a grass fire north and east of Burden Sunday afternoon that was intentionally and maliciously set. With assistance from our friends at Atlanta and Cambridge Fire, we were able to extinguish the fire after it burned for over a mile from the source of ignition and consumed approximately 175 acres of grass. If you see smoke or a fire, please be aware of any vehicles you see in the area and don’t hesitate to call 911 to report the fire. This is the second fire in as many weeks that has been set in a very rural area of our district. With the assistance of a vigilant public, we may be able to identify and apprehend the arsonist(s).
