On April 26th at approximately 12:18 PM members from the Winfield Police Department and the Winfield Fire/EMS Department were dispatched to the Winfield City Lake for a report of a boat in the water near the shoreline unoccupied on the north side of the lake. During the initial investigation it was believed that the boat was being operated prior to it becoming lodged on the bank of the lake. Based on this information initial search efforts were commenced both on land near the boat as well as in the water. At approximately 4:49 PM the victim was located underwater deceased by divers from the Sedgwick County Fire District and the Arkansas City Fire Department.
The Winfield Police Department identified the victim as John Sanford, 75, of Atlanta, Kansas. As of this time no foul play is suspected
