Winfield Police Department says they’ve been made aware of a scam circulating on Facebook, and several area residents have been impacted by it. Scammers are gaining access to Facebook users’ accounts and then using promised payouts through Cash app to entice others into falling for their scam. If someone you know is posting an easy challenge (for example, asking for comments with a simple word or phrase) in exchange for a big payout, please contact the person through means other than Facebook to let them know their account may have been compromised. As a reminder, never click on suspicious links or open suspicious attachments. It’s also not a good idea to provide personally identifiable information over Facebook, even if you think you’re communicating with someone you know.
