Winfield Police Department: We’ve noticed an uptick of scam callers claiming to be with an unnamed law enforcement agency or court threatening legal action stemming from fraudulent activity tied to a person’s social security number. These calls often threaten issuance of arrest warrants from a local magistrate if the call is ignored. We’d like to ask you to ignore these calls, and refrain from giving the callers any personal information. Courts and law enforcement agencies do not call and ask for your social security number while threatening legal action if it’s not provided.
